ROMANCING THE EVERYDAY

My mom had a knack for making the ordinary special. She would wrap a present so beautifully that you didn’t want to open it. Receiving that gift was an experience for the recipient.

Her clothes closet was always organized and beautiful. It was almost like walking into a boutique. It was a nice walk-in closet with white wire shelving yet she always displayed her things in a special way….and this was decades before Pinterest or even Martha Stewart.

The fridge was always clean and organized but what was special is she always had pretty plastic placemats on the shelves. It was just that little extra that did not cost very much but could make you or a guest smile when they opened it. I love doing this and swapping out the placemats with the seasons.

There were so many of these things. Many of which my sister and I do now. Sorry, mom neither one of your daughters ever mastered the art of gift wrapping...or sheet folding for that matter.

What my mom was doing was making ordinary things special...she was Romancing the Everyday.

Having a checkered table cloth with a candle stuck in a bottle of chianti does make a spaghetti dinner special.

The beauty of this practice is that it is available to everyone. The secret is slowing down and taking the time to enjoy your surroundings.

Flowers from your garden or wildflowers from a walk stuck in a mason jar, or even a soup can with the label peeled off will make you smile every time you look at them.

Lighting an unscented candle at dinner every single night will make dinner that much more special.

The Laundress liquid laundry detergent has a wonderful scent. Using it on your bedding, blankets, and favorite clothing will leave them smelling great.

There are many everyday routines or simple additions that we can add to our daily lives to create beauty, simplicity, and elegance.

Why not make the ordinary extraordinary? Romance Your Everyday.
