Have you ever

had one of those days? Nothing seems to go right. We all have those days---we are human.

But what happens when you have a whole string of those off days, maybe lasting weeks or months. You find yourself in a rut, feel stuck, fed up, or bored. You know you don’t want to continue to feel this way, but you don’t know what to do to change

When you are in a rut, you often don’t have the energy or motivation to get yourself to change things for the better

Below are easy-to-implement ways to get you started on the path of change.

Accept the Situation

The most important thing is to acknowledge that you are in a rut. Trying to brush those feelings away or making excuses like I’m just tired doesn't serve you.  It will just keep you in the same cycle.

Acknowledge that you are in a rut and show yourself some compassion. Let go of any judgment.

Make an appointment with your doctor to rule out any medical issues.

Change up a daily routine

Life tends to run better when we establish systems for things, but the problem comes when things run too smoothly, and we become blinded to any ideas or choices that sit outside of our routine. We start running on auto-pilot, and it becomes our whole world.

Changing up something as simple as your route to work or running errands take you out of your norm and puts things in a fresh perspective.

Self Care

Self-care practices help to refresh your mind and your body.  Try to carve out some time for the following:

  • Spend ten to 30 minutes each day doing absolutely nothing.

  • Get out in nature every day

  • Have a regular workout plan

  • Spend time with loved ones

  • Get plenty of quality sleep

Challenge yourself

Challenging yourself to do something you have always thought about or is a bit out of your comfort zone has many benefits.  Following your curiosity can lead to new relationships, new skills, and new perspectives.

Things to try:

  • Say yes to the group of people at work when they invite you out for lunch

  • Try the free yoga or meditation class at your local rec center

  • Take on online class

  • Offer to head up the new initiative in the workplace

  • Volunteer

  • Plan a solo trip

These are just some ways to shake up your everyday routine and get yourself out of that rut. If you would like more ideas to get yourself out of a rut get your copy of Romancing the Ordinary here!
