Creating Your Passion

Living your best life is more than just having your essential needs met. We all strive for meaning and fulfillment beyond the bare necessities.

Do you have an incredible dream? An inner drive to contribute to the greater good? A feeling that you were meant for more?

You want passion and a purpose in your life, but you just don’t know what it is.

Merriam Webster defines passion as a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement.

Have you ever started a journey to “discover” your passion and become frustrated and confused?

This not-so-great outcome is because you don’t discover your passion, my friend; you create it.

Are you ready to create strong feelings of enthusiasm and excitement?

The first step is to spend time alone for 15-30 minutes a day. You can start with just three minutes per day.

Next, commit to a journal practice. While journaling, you can process your emotions, figure out the next steps, and deepen your relationship with yourself. I love making lists in my journal. Here are some tips to get you started.

Ask Yourself:

  1. What do I love to do?

  2. What would I love to stop doing?

  3. What were some of my favorite things to do when I was younger?

  4. What could I talk about all evening?

  5. What do I love to read about?

  6. What are my favorite movies?

  7. If money were not a concern, what would I do?

  8. What have I always been curious about?

  9. What have I always said I would do “one day?”

Giving yourself time and space to think and write will help ignite your imagination.

Get curious, dig deep and start exploring.

Maybe you love books steeped in history. You took one art history class in college and loved it. There could be something here to explore. Pick up a book from the library about art history, take a free online course, go to a museum and do a guided tour.  This could spark something inside you and make you want more. Or maybe you just like books about history.

Do you love looking at your neighbor's garden? Did your grandparents have a garden that you loved to play in as a young child? Do you like to look at gardens in magazines? This could be something to explore deeper.

Did you love to snow ski as a child? Do you miss it, but none of your friends ski, and you just let it go a long time ago? Maybe a ski lesson at a local ski resort is in order.

I think you can see where I am going here. Get curious and try stuff. Be open to new ideas and situations.

It is not always going to be a mind-blowing epiphany. It is a process of adding more joy to your life and exploring what interests you.

This may lead to new hobbies or even a new career or more fulfillment in your everyday.

Get curious and have fun!
